The Kim Scott wound, the absent father, the mother who medicated and disappeared: all of it went into the catalog, named and detailed, screamed at full volume. The result is one of the most psychologically transparent bodies of work in popular music. The question is not what the art says. The question is what it cost him that the art was the only place he could say it.
